Washington County, Pennsylvania, a 1-year-old boy is currently in a medically induced coma following an alleged brutal assault by his mother’s boyfriend, Lyndon Henderson, 24.

On November 23, 2024, police were called to a residence in Pittsburgh after the child’s mother returned home from work to find her son, Kybrel, unresponsive on the couch.

1 year old, Kybrel was found unresponsive in an apartment where the mother left her baby with her boyfriend, Lyndon Henderson. Kybrel was admitted to the hospital on Nov. 23.

Upon arrival, emergency responders rushed Kybrel to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital and later transferred him to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh due to the severity of his injuries.

The baby’s grandmother described, “He was beat like a man”, in an interview with a local news outlet. Lyndon Henderson, was babysitting him, according to a criminal complaint obtained by local outlet.

Medical professionals diagnosed Kybrel with a traumatic brain injury, extensive bruising, and a broken neck vertebra.

Doctors say the injuries were definitely caused by child abuse, and the child was put on a ventilator and is now being treated in a medically induced coma.

Additionally, a stroke was recorded, which made the child’s situation even more complicated and raised concerns about the severity of the abuse he endured.

Henderson said that Kybrel had been spinning him in circles before he fell off the couch when he was questioned by police following the incident. This explanation has been regarded with mistrust given the extent of the child’s injuries.

Henderson was arrested shortly after the incident and initially charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child. However, as the investigation progressed and more details emerged, the charges were upgraded to attempted homicide.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh has vowed to pursue justice for Kybrel, emphasizing the need to protect vulnerable children from such heinous acts. A preliminary hearing for Henderson is scheduled for January 15, 2025, where further legal proceedings will take place.
