Salt Lake County, UT – Police are investigating a mass homicide in which five family members, including the parents and three children, were found dead inside a home in Utah. A 17-year-old was discovered injured at the scene in the 3700 block of Oxford Way and has been hospitalized.
Police stated, “Initial information indicates all of the deceased are members of the same family who live inside the home.”
Reportedly, on Monday, an unidentified woman contacted authorities, expressing concern that she “wasn’t able to reach the woman who lived at the home” where the incident occurred.
When police arrived at the location, about nine miles southwest of Salt Lake City, they knocked on the door, but no one answered. Officers looked through the windows but found no signs of a crime. Some officers spoke to neighbors, but there were no indications of an emergency. They then asked a relative to try contacting the family.
The next day, Tuesday, the woman who lived at the home did not show up for work. A concerned relative went to the address and entered through the garage door.
Inside the garage, they found the injured 17-year-old, who lived in the home, suffering from gunshot wounds. The relative immediately contacted the police.
When officers arrived, they found the 17-year-old still alive and transported him to the hospital.
Upon entering the home, police discovered the bodies of five others: a 42-year-old male, a 38-year-old female, an 11-year-old boy, a 9-year-old girl, and a 2-year-old girl.
The police obtained a search warrant for the home, and investigators have begun their inquiry. Officers have also canvassed the neighborhood, gathering information and video evidence.
At this point, police believe that no suspect is on the loose and this incident is isolated to the home.
