A Virginia woman has been arrested after she allegedly threw gasoline on her friend and set her on fire while the friend was relaxing on a couch.
Twenty-eight-year-old Savannah Adams is accused of killing Tiffany Dunford on Sunday in Wythe County, Virginia.
Tiffany, reportedly a mother of two children, was sitting on an outdoor couch at her home in Max Meadows when Savannah allegedly pulled up in a car, got out, poured gasoline all over Tiffany, set her on fire, and then drove away.
The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and found Tiffany with severe burns all over her body. She was airlifted to the nearest hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the next day.
The motive for the attack remains unclear. However, a few individuals close to Tiffany posted on Facebook, alleging that Savannah had hacked one of Tiffany’s family members’ accounts on the platform.
Authorities asked the public for assistance in locating Savannah, who was initially on the run. They released an image of her 2004 silver Dodge Neon, the car she was reportedly driving, along with an older mugshot. Savannah had been arrested multiple times in the past, facing charges for minor traffic violations, trespassing, and, more recently, assault.
In 2023, Savannah was arrested and released on bond after allegedly assaulting someone with a metal pipe. The victim of that incident claimed Savannah was attempting to kill them.
Savannah was taken into custody on Monday and charged with First-Degree Murder and Felonious Assault. At the crime scene, authorities reportedly found a burnt couch and other charred items at Tiffany’s home.
Savannah is now being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years to life in prison and a fine of up to $100,000 for the Class 2 felonies under Virginia law. Her court date is set for January 31, 2025.
Tiffany’s family is currently grieving her loss. A cousin spoke to a local news outlet, saying, “Anybody that knew Tiffany, she could light up a room. Whether she was in the right or wrong, I don’t care—I still loved her. She didn’t deserve to be burned.” They also added, “Tiffany was too nice of a person, and this is devastating to me and my family.”
