A mother from Texas has been arrested months after leaving her toddler home alone for days to meet a man she connected with on the dating app Hinge.
Twenty-five-year-old Reese Louise Myers has been accused of abandoning or endangering her 16-month-old child. Police discovered the toddler alone in an apartment in Killeen during an incident that occurred in late July of this year.
Reports state that Myers traveled 400 miles to San Antonio for a Hinge date, leaving her child unattended. Officers from the Killeen Police Department responded to calls regarding the welfare of the child at an apartment located at 600 W Hallmark Ave in Killeen around 9 a.m. one morning.
A witness told police they had seen the child near a broken window after an aggressive dog attempted to attack them. When officials arrived, they found the toddler protruding from a window, which had been crudely repaired with plexiglass sheeting and cardboard.
Police noted that the child was wearing only a shirt and was covered in feces, with visible signs of a severe diaper rash. Upon searching the apartment, officers confirmed the child was alone, except for two dogs.
Authorities contacted Myers, who informed them she was in San Antonio and had been there since the previous day. According to an affidavit, there were several baby-proofing precautions set up around the apartment, indicating Myers had planned to leave the child unsupervised. Doors were closed off, and a baby gate blocked access to the kitchen.
When questioned, Myers claimed she had arranged for a babysitter via Facebook to watch her child. However, this claim was debunked when police spoke with the alleged babysitter, who revealed she had not been contacted by Myers since December of the previous year. The babysitter provided Facebook messages that corroborated her statement.
Myers was taken into custody on November 5 by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office in California. She was released from their custody on November 19 and immediately arrested by the Killeen Police Department on the same day.
The affidavit also includes a statement from a woman who had lived with Myers for a month in October 2023. The woman alleged that Myers exhibited neglectful behavior toward her child, often leaving the house at night and returning the next day. Myers reportedly told the woman, “The child would sleep through the night and not wake up.”
Myers has been booked into the Bell County Jail following her arrest.
