Limestone County, AL – A well-known TikTok influencer from Athens, who was even nominated for the Cheer Choice Awards for TikTok, was supposedly known for having a positive platform and using it for good.
A woman from Alabama secretly pocketed a $1 million donation she raised for a supposed homeless charity that didn’t even exist.
Fifty-seven-year-old Amy Dianne Elmore Downs, from Alabama, was arrested after a three-year investigation revealed that she solicited a large amount of money from people around the world.
Her fabricated charity was supposedly meant to help victims of domestic violence and homeless individuals.
In 2021, it was reported that she deposited nearly $1 million into her personal bank accounts under the guise of charitable donations.
Amy is better known on TikTok as Slot_7.0 or Slotmachinequeen, but she has recently deleted her account.
Reportedly, she used her popularity on social media to encourage her followers to send her funds via personal finance apps. She claimed she received money through PayPal, Venmo, and Cash App, making her followers believe the funds were going to victims in need.
She was nominated for the Cheer Choice Awards for TikTok and even participated in a red carpet interview. During the interview, she claimed to help domestic violence victims in immediate danger and homeless individuals.
The investigation into her activities also revealed that she had not reported any employment since 2020, despite large sums of money being deposited into her accounts. Investigators found no legitimate charity organization registered under her name with the Alabama Attorney General’s Office or anywhere else.
Amy was ultimately arrested and booked into the Limestone County Jail on seven counts of charitable fraud and three counts of tax evasion.
Amy Downs was placed on a $1,125,000 bond and has reportedly bailed out, possibly on Tuesday night.
The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information or concerns about potential fraudulent activity involving Downs to come forward.
