Jealous Man Shot His Ex-Wife and Killed her Girlfriend

  • by

Reportedly, the man accused of killing his ex-wife’s girlfriend and injuring his ex-wife in a shooting had made threats months prior, saying he would “kill them and send them to hell.”

On January 3, around 4:45 p.m., a man called 911 to report that he had shot someone near Sacks and Blanton drives in east Las Vegas. He didn’t provide his name or any further details.

When police arrived, they found Adrian Rodriguez-Guillen, 41, and took him into custody. They also discovered two women inside a Hyundai who had been shot.

Medical personnel pronounced the driver, 40-year-old Adriana Herrera, dead at the scene, having suffered gunshot wounds to her body and head, according to the arrest report.

The other woman in the car had been shot in the hip. As police assisted her out of the vehicle, she told them that her ex-husband was responsible for the shooting of both her and Herrera. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital for treatment.

While at the hospital, the victim explained to police that she had been in a romantic relationship with Rodriguez-Guillen for 24 years. They married in 2001, divorced in 2013, but continued to have a romantic connection while raising their seven children together.

About a year and a half ago, she began dating Herrera. The three of them worked together at Harry Reid International Airport. The victim described her relationship with Herrera as “on-again, off-again,” often ending it to reconcile with Rodriguez-Guillen for the sake of their children. Two months prior to the shooting, she said she had “permanently” ended things with Rodriguez-Guillen because she no longer loved him and resumed her relationship with Herrera.

The victim reported that Rodriguez-Guillen reacted poorly to the breakup, becoming angry and jealous. She told police he would threaten both her and Herrera, saying he was “going to kill them and send them to hell.” She described him as “very jealous and controlling,” noting that he had placed trackers on her vehicles on two occasions.

On the day of the shooting, when the victim informed Rodriguez-Guillen that she was going to spend time with Herrera, he became upset and left the house. When Herrera arrived to pick her up, Rodriguez-Guillen parked behind a neighbor’s truck to hide from her view, then drove in front of their car to block their exit. However, the women managed to reverse and drive away.

As they drove, they noticed Rodriguez-Guillen following them. Herrera stopped the car in the middle of the street, but Rodriguez-Guillen pulled in front of them, blocking their path, and got out of his vehicle with a rifle.

The victim recounted that Herrera opened her door to confront him, and he fired about three shots, which she believed hit Herrera and then struck her in the hip. She didn’t think Rodriguez-Guillen intended to shoot her.

She tried to hold Herrera close, but Rodriguez-Guillen told her to move because he was going to shoot Herrera in the face. After he shot Herrera, he pulled out a handgun and threatened to kill himself. However, upon realizing the victim had been shot, he began to apologize and said he would call the police.

Rodriguez-Guillen refused to speak to detectives without a lawyer and was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.

He faces several charges, including:

  • Open murder with a deadly weapon
  • Attempted murder with a deadly weapon
  • First-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm with a deadly weapon
  • First-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon
  • Burglary while in possession of a firearm
  • Eight counts of discharging a firearm at or into an occupied structure or vehicle

His preliminary hearing is set for February 19.
