Kyren Lacy, a standout wide receiver for Louisiana State University (LSU), is facing significant legal challenges following a tragic car accident on Louisiana Highway 20 near Perez Lane in Lafourche Parish.
Lacy is currently wanted on charges of negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run stemming from a traffic incident on December 17, 2024, which resulted in the death of a former Marine and injuries to two others, according to Louisiana State Police.
Authorities have stated they are “in communication with Lacy and his legal representation to arrange for his surrender.”
Following the crash, investigators allege that Lacy fled the scene without reporting his involvement to law enforcement.
At 24 years old and a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana, Lacy is also facing a charge of reckless operation of a vehicle, as indicated in legal documents.
According to Louisiana State Police, Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger southbound on LA Highway 20 when he allegedly engaged in reckless driving by passing multiple vehicles at high speed, crossing the centerline, and entering the northbound lane in a designated no-passing zone.
Just two days after the incident, Lacy declared for the NFL Draft.
A report from Louisiana State Police outlines the events of the crash: As Lacy was illegally overtaking other vehicles, the driver of a northbound pickup truck had to brake suddenly and swerve to avoid a head-on collision with Lacy’s approaching Dodge. A Kia Cadenza, traveling behind the pickup, attempted to avoid the Dodge by swerving left, which resulted in a head-on collision with a southbound Kia Sorento. After the crash, Lacy reportedly drove around the scene and fled south on LA Highway 20 without stopping to provide assistance, call for emergency services, or report his involvement.
Herman Hall, a 78-year-old passenger in the Kia Sorento from Thibodaux, was critically injured in the crash and later died at the hospital. Hall was a former Marine.
Louisiana State Police confirmed that detectives and troopers were able to establish that Lacy was driving the Dodge Charger at the time of the incident.
In his most recent season with LSU, Lacy led the team in receiving touchdowns (9) and ranked second in both receptions (58) and receiving yards (866). Over his five-year collegiate career at the University of Louisiana and LSU, he recorded 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and scored 26 touchdowns.
Lacy’s agent, Rocky Arceneaux, released a statement addressing the allegations:
“We are aware of the allegations made against Kyren Lacy and want to take this opportunity to respond. First and foremost, Kyren is fully cooperating with authorities. We strongly believe that the facts will ultimately reveal the truth, but we respect the need for a complete and thorough investigation.

To anyone affected, directly or indirectly, we assure you that this matter is being taken very seriously, and we are committed to resolving it responsibly. Out of respect for the investigation and all parties involved, we will not be making further comments at this time.”
LSU Football has stated that they “have no comment at this time out of respect for the legal process.”
