Maryland Therapist Drowns Her 3-Month-Old Daughter in Bathtub

Mackenzie R Colgan arrested

Montgomery County, MD – A therapist and mother drowned her three-month-old infant daughter in a bathtub on Sunday after waking up in their home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Thirty-seven-year-old Mackenzie R. Colgan has been charged with first-degree murder, according to court documents.

Early on the morning of December 8, Mackenzie called 911 from her home to report that she had just drowned her three-month-old infant daughter in the bathtub.

Mackenzie is reportedly a licensed clinical counselor.

First responders reportedly rushed to the home to try to save the baby, but unfortunately, it was too late, and she was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

At around 11:40 a.m. on Sunday, Mackenzie reportedly took her baby daughter, whose name has not yet been disclosed, away from other family members.

She reportedly said that she had planned to bathe her upstairs. Then, about 20 minutes later, Mackenzie came back downstairs and told the baby’s father that the baby had died in the bathtub. The baby’s father instructed Mackenzie to immediately call 911 and ran upstairs to give the baby CPR.

After the 911 call, authorities took Mackenzie in for questioning. It was reported that she allegedly told detectives that when she woke up that morning, she did so with a plan to end everything.

She had originally decided she would kill her children and her husband. She said she turned the baby’s face away from her, held the baby’s head underwater, and did so until she knew the baby was dead.

She then claimed that she attempted to jump out of the window of her home but changed her mind when she reached the window ledge. That’s when she told her husband what she had done to their daughter.

Mackenzie is being held in Montgomery County and has been charged with first-degree murder.

A mental health evaluation has been ordered for her before her first court appearance.

Reportedly, Mackenzie had no prior criminal convictions.
