Minnesota Mom Has Avoided a Prison Sentence After Being Convicted of Sexually Abusing Two 15-year-old Boys

BLAINE, MN – Allison Leigh Schardin, a 39-year-old woman from Blaine, was sentenced to five years of probation on January 10, 2025, after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving two 15-year-old hockey players. The incidents occurred on January 14, 2024, at a hotel in Roseville, Minnesota, where Schardin was staying with her husband and two children for what she described as a “staycation.”

During her time at the hotel, Schardin met the two boys from Colorado, who were in town for a youth hockey tournament. Reports indicate that Schardin approached the boys while they were in the hot tub, confiding in them about having marital problems.

After the boys went back to their rooms, she sent one of them a Snapchat saying that she had just had a fight with her husband and wanted to come to the teen’s room. In the boy’s room, the mother of two asked the boys how old they were and told them they were young enough to be her kids.

She started talking about “sex and stuff,” asking them how sexually active they were and then got into bed with two of the boys.

“One of the victim described feeling stuck in the moment and did not know how to say no,” the complaint said. “He said that in his head, his response was ‘not really’ but he responded by saying ‘sure,’ though he ‘wasn’t totally on board with it.’”

Schadin then began sexual acts with two of the teens — while a third watched — and asked them to perform sexual acts on her, which included inappropriate touching and oral sex.

The following day, Schardin went to the rink where the boys were playing a tournament game. One of the victims reported that they all started getting nervous, and he was shaking on the bench at one point because he wanted to leave what happened the night before in the past. He described Schardin’s presence as “really creepy,” as she tried to follow them.

After showing up at the arena, Schardin reached out to the boys with a simple message: “Don’t tell the cops.”

Police received a complaint on January 22 regarding sexual abuse involving a woman, later identified as Schardin, who had engaged in sexual conduct with members of a Colorado under-16 hockey team at a hotel located in the 2500 block of Cleveland Avenue North.

Schardin was arrested Feb. 1. She said she enjoyed the attention she was getting from the boys, and admitted to the sexual conduct. The trial for Schardin began on November 26, 2024.

Prosecutors argued in court that Schardin’s behavior should be treated as seriously as if the genders were reversed, stating, “If the genders were reversed, there are few who would believe that leniency is appropriate.” They highlighted the emotional toll on the victims, noting that the boys “lost friends, and they have had to endure whispers and harmful comments from others, as if they were the perpetrators.” Initially, both victims were suspended from their hockey team, but they were later reinstated after explaining what happened. However, the team officials ultimately decided to cancel the rest of the season.

As part of her sentencing, Schardin must receive mental health treatment and register as a sex offender for the next 10 years. Defense attorney Eileen Bergmann argued against additional jail time, citing Schardin’s mental health struggles and the severe consequences she had already faced, including losing her job and facing ostracism from the community.

Judge Joy Bartscher ultimately sided with the defense, giving Schardin credit for the five days she had already served in jail. She ordered Schardin to serve two more weekends in jail and perform 200 hours of community service. Additional conditions include mandatory mental health treatment, no unsupervised contact with juvenile boys, and registration as a predatory offender for 10 years.
