Police said that concerned neighbors called deputies at a trailer park after a woman was causing a disturbance, which led to the discovery of a child’s body.
Meagan Ann Dixon, 44, was arrested and charged in connection with the death of her 11-year-old autistic son at an RV park in Meridian, west of Yuba City.
Meagan Dixon was arrested at the scene. She faces charges related to child endangerment and homicide. The trailer is called Lovey’s Landing.
Police arrived at the RV park on Sunday, January 5th, at around 10 AM, after they received a call. The witnesses said that the woman looked like she was under the influence of something. The witness said that the woman was causing a huge disturbance and arguing with another person.
Authorities said that the evidence found at the scene showed that the boy had been smothered with a pillow, and he had been deceased for days before police found his body.
Police also found 3 dogs who were deceased at the scene. One was found at the trailer, and the other two were found in Meagan’s vehicle.
Meagan is currently being held at the Sutter County Jail on a $1 million bail on charges of murder, great bodily injury with a drug-related enhancement, and child abuse, according to Sutter County Jail records. She could face more charges.
An autopsy is being scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, said an officer. An autopsy has also been requested for each of the dogs.
Dixon had lived at the trailer park for three years with the boy and his stepfather. The stepfather had been out of town for several weeks and is not considered a suspect, said the officer.
The child was believed to have been home-schooled and had autism.
A mother who lives in the park said her sons played soccer with the victim almost every day.
“I texted yesterday because my son did want him to come out and play,” she said. “And there was no reply.”
Neighbors said no one heard anything or any noises coming from the trailer this week.
Dixon’s only criminal history was a theft charge from 20 years ago.
