SHELBY, Ohio – A man is dead, and a police sergeant is recovering after an officer-involved shooting at an Arby’s in Shelby on Saturday night.
According to a release from the Shelby Police Department, Sergeant Noah Kocher and Officer Dominic Ewing went to the Arby’s on Mansfield Avenue around 11:18 p.m. to serve a warrant issued by the Shelby Municipal Court to Tyler Jacobs.
Officer Ewing, who had been covering the back door, entered the restaurant and provided aid to Sgt. Kocher and Jacobs. Both were transported to a hospital, where Jacobs succumbed to his injuries. Sgt. Kocher is reported to be in stable condition, according to the release.
When officers informed Jacobs of the warrant, he reportedly stabbed Kocher in the neck with a knife.
Kocher, as stated in the release, “was able to make physical distance” before Jacobs ran toward him with the knife still in hand.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has been requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting and to process the scene.
